Jazz Portrait 1: Benny Goodman

I’ve been watching Ken Burns’ excellent documentary series Jazz. Since much of the visual record from the early and mid-Jazz era is in stills, Burns employs his famous slow pan/zoom of a photo. I look for still images I like, whip out my sketch book, Micron pens, and ink-filled Niji waterbrush and try to create a high contrast version of the photo. I dropped it into Photoshop and added highlight and shadow layers on top of an old paper texture (to add some warmth).
