This is from an earlier session developing some ideas for an interpretation of Hansel & Gretel. The great thing about watercolors, especially with a waterbrush, is the immediacy of playing with color in a loose way.

One of my short clients commissioned this work from “The Silver Chair”. I inked it with my ink filled Niji and slapped some color down in Photoshop.

Some older sketches done at the Oakland Zoo. The alligators are great because they mostly just sit and do nothing—perfect models.

This is an older drawing, but I recently inked it for fun. I’ve done a few 1-page gag strips with this guy and his supporting cast. One of these days I’ll break out a few more.

I sketched this page out pretty quickly yesterday, did a quick ink job with my ink-filled Niji and slapped on some color in Photoshop. Writing out the scene definitely gave me focus, although the real test will come on the next pages since they will have more varied content from panel to panel.

I used a technique I learned on one of the tutorials at cgpad.org. The idea is to creat component parts and recombine them to quickly prototype designs. The tutorial I saw was actually for spacecraft but I figured I could go organic just as easily. I did these three in about 30 minutes.

I sketched Morgan Freeman in “The Shawshank Redemption”. Importing an inked version into Photoshop, I played around with brushes, textures and the lighting filter. I’m expanding my use and understanding of th custom brush settings. My goal is to effectively mimic natural media. I do occasionally use Painter. Although it has fantastic media modelling capabilities, I’m in Photoshop more often so it seems like a good idea to explore the tools offered me there.

I was at the Scottish Games in P-Town over the weekend. I could have drawn mad people dressed up in wool in 100+ degree weather, but instead I drew this really cool British car.
